Say No to Rape and Incest Exceptions in Georgia

We are entering a new legislative session.  There will probably be prolife legislation offered during this session.  And, you can continue to trust that GRTL will not be supporting any law that allows a rape and incest exception.  The mission of GRTL has always been to protect ALL human life from fertilization until natural death.  In 2000, this mission and the principle of support for legislation and endorsement of candidates for public office became consistent.  There would be no support or endorsement for anyone or any law that allowed these exceptions.

Georgia Right to Life hears the grumbling every legislative session and every election.  However, we are serious and most of the truly prolife people who have sought and received our PAC’s endorsement are as serious as we are.  In fact, all of the Statewide offices in November were won by GRTL PAC endorsed candidates who have no exceptions and support Personhood.  Principled Prolife does win in Georgia.  It would be disastrous to go back to where we were 10 years ago.

All abortions kill an innocent human being, period, regardless of the manner of their conception. Some challenge us that we care only for the child and not the mother.  Rape and incest are acts of violence against innocent women and those rapists and those who commit incest must be punished to the fullest extent of the law.  We care about women who find themselves in any difficult pregnancy and no less in the case of rape or incest.  Society fails to realize that abortion is an act of violence against another innocent person, the baby.  Irrationally, society wants the woman who has been violated to kill her child not because the child has done anything, but because the father has. Some women have testified that the abortion after a rape feels like a medical rape.

We have testimonies of rape and incest survivors that attest that abortion is not a healthy solution to being pregnant by assault.  “Denise,” incest victim and a victim of forced abortion: “Why do even prolifers talk about exceptions for rape and incest as if that is a way to have ‘compassion’ for the mother?  If you really want to be compassionate. . .give this mother the opportunity to choose life.”

And, we have testimonies of women, like Rebecca Kiessling, who was “Conceived in Rape” who are offended that society thinks that she should have been killed because her mother was raped.  We at GRTL are so thankful that Rebecca is going to be with us on Friday, January 21st, to tell her story to the attendees of our Together for Life.  We hope that she will be able to provide further incentive (and encouragement) to Georgia’s legislators and other pro-life groups in Georgia to stand for the principle of no exceptions for rape and incest.  The battle against abortion will be won when there is no compromise and no exceptions.
